ATTENTION: ROCK IS DEAD.

ATTENTION: ROCK IS DEAD.

Wombleton, L.A.’s funniest(?) record store, has just been freshened with 600+ used arrivals from my recent trip to Canada (and the Detroit-area) and other piecemeal buys since Xmas.

What to expect?

**80s modern soul, boogie, electro, random rap & early techno**

**loadsa cheeep 70s disco, soul, funk, r&b**

**delightfully passé 90s deep house, tech house, garage & hip hop**

**naff off-brand pop oddities, most have synthesizers on them**

Yes its true, we’ve been lazy about bringing out the new arrivals of late, but that’s all changing tomorrow. Visit us soon to be sure to see all of the fab new gear… some more photos are down below.

This pair of novelty electro 12s are guaranteed to clear any dance floor.

SYNTH POP STARLET ANNA DOMINO – LIVE AT WOMBLETON RECORDS, THURSDAY FEBRUARY 14th, 2013, 9pm (VALENTINE’S DAY); FREE!

LIVE CONCERT PERFORMANCE – VALENTINE’S DAY 2013 AT THE WOMBLETON RECORD STORE, LOS ANGELES

You may have noticed that we don’t host a lot of in-stores here at Wombleton, the main reason being that we don’t sell a lot of new music by new bands at our shop. It seems that the other stores in the area are doing great work in this field and there isn’t much of a necessity for Wombleton to get in on the action.

Our take on the whole thing has been to do in-stores with artists that we do carry. A lot of our favorites are relatively obscure people from the UK and Europe who were releasing their music twenty, thirty, even forty(!) years ago. These sorts of acts aren’t exactly knocking on doors looking for gigs at tiny boutiques in dodgy parts of L.A. these days, but when we’ve had the chance to bring in a Bob Lind or The Clean to Highland Park we’ve jumped at it. Well, we’ve had another one of those rare opportunities… so on Valentine’s Day, February 14th 2013, we are excited to present a live in-store performance from Anna Domino at around 9pm!

In our book, Anna Domino is one of the true greats of obscure, ethereal 1980s/90s synthpop; she continues to create challenging and forward thinking avant-garde pop music to this day.

Anna started putting out records on Belgium’s mighty Les Disques Du Crépuscule in the mid-1980s and her music has become progressively more interesting and strange with every release since. She has lent her voice to landmark recordings by The The, Virgina Astley and The 6ths (the legendary Magnetic Fields spin-off) and has had her own recordings produced by a veritable who’s who of mind-bogglingly incredible music weirdos such as Alan Rankine (The Associates), Blaine L Reininger (Tuxedomoon), Marc Moulin (Telex, Lio, Sparks), Luc Van Acker (Revolting Cocks), Arthur Baker (New Order, Planet Patrol, Freeez) and Flood (Depeche Mode, Erasure, Nick Cave). Since those heady Crépuscule (and Factory Records) years Anna has continued to put out great stuff on her own and as half of the duo Snakefarm (along with Bel Canto’s Michel Delory).

If you’ve missed out on Anna Domino until now, now’s your chance! Bring a date to Wombleton Records this Valentine’s Day and treat yourself to a rare appearance by one of the great lost unsung voices in modern music. Performing a rare career-spanning acoustic set with Snakefarm partner Michel Delory. Free show!

WOMBLETON’S 2nd ANNIVERSARY PARTY: THURS OCT 25, 8pm – EUROPEAN NEW ARRIVALS

What’s inside the mystery boxes we just brought home from Germany? Find out this Thursday night!

Yes, it really has been over two years since we opened Wombleton and a lot has changed in the Highland Park area on the record store front. In the past year or so, great new local shops have opened hither and tither making our neighborhood a mind boggling vinyl oasis; a one-of-a-kind record shopping wonderland of international renown, unlike anything this side of Shinjuku.

At Wombleton we’re excited to be a part of the zeitgeist and would like to officially welcome Mount Analog to our nape of the neck; if you haven’t been yet I urge you to pay them a visit (and some money). It’s a beautiful place full of great new & used vinyl of the highest calibre.

Also we’ve heard confirmation that a fantastic shop from NYC, Gimme Gimme Records, is moving their shop to LA, just down York a bit from our place. We’ve been Gimme Gimme customers since they opened back in the 90s in the East Village and in our book, they are, in a word, “legendary”. So add that to the likes of Permanent and Mono (we claim them even though they’re on the wrong side of the 5) get ready for more incredible records than you can possibly handle on the East side this holiday season. But this post is supposed to be about us… so back to Wombleton and our exciting milestone / new arrivals party!

As you may know, over the past 108-or-so weeks we’ve made a tradition of traveling the globe in search of intriguing records which don’t turn up too often on this side of the pond. Since we started up, we’ve been to the UK 6 times(!), Germany twice, Holland twice & Jamaica twice. Not to mention our little demi-trips to Toronto, Rio, Austin & NYC in between.

We just got back from a whirlwind tour of Europe and did a lot of shopping around Germany this time. We bought an absurd amount of fabulous stuff which you simply must see to believe! Hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of fresh used LPs and 45s will debut in our racks at 8pm on Thurs. I won’t bore you with the same schpeel as always- you know the drill Felt, Can, Pulp, Neu, Smiths, Shirley Collins, Go-Betweens, Fall, Kevin Ayers, import, original press, private press, hand-painted sleeve, blah blah blah. Just be there Thursday!

WOMBLETON IS NOW TWO YEARS OLD.

PLEASE COME & BUY SOMETHING & CELEBRATE WITH US.

CIDER DRINKERS WELCOME!
